This international music festival is held annually in Torroella de Montgrí and is divided into two sections: classical music and world music. The origins of the International Music Festival of Torroella de Montgrí can be found in 1980, the year in which the first cycle of music was held, composed of only five concerts. As in its origins, the festival takes place in Gothic and Renaissance architectural spaces such as the church of Sant Genís, the Palacio Solterra and the Plaza de la Vila.
Although the festival is young, the musical tradition of this town dates back to the Middle Ages. At that time, Torroella de Montgrí was a real town that in the 15th century hosted the construction of the Music Chapel for religious reasons, something that had a decisive influence on the musical area of the locality.
